Preferably amenable to forward tilt, preferably springed. So far, I'm aware of the 90-ish Buick LeSabre ones - any others?

Well, I mean, the Ranchero *is* going to have a buick engine of sorts. It would be churlish not to at least consider MOAR BEWACKS

Good call on 'Vette. The C4 ones actually looks particularly good.

I saw some of the ones for 50s F-series and most were pricey and not quite the right form factor. I'm still looking at first gen Camaro, but I think C4 is the strongest lead so far other than LeSabre - cheap enough to challenge pick'n'pull rates on Buick parts, certainly.

Since Corvette was already mentioned, I know BMW and Saab did it on some models up till the 80's

Don't the Saab 900's have front tilt hoods?

Forward hinging hinges for Saab seem thin on the ground, but at the same time, the hinges for a 900 appear quite adaptable to what I want to do as well. I'll have to weigh them against the C4 ones, and add them to the "check if at a pick & pull" list with the LeSabre ones.

BMW e30, e34 should be easily findable, 2002, e21 or e12 if you're lucky.

You win the cookie. Tried all the other suggestions, but the E30 hinge setup was most likely to work, and was available on eBay the cheapest: $28 counting shipping. It doesn't have a lift spring on it, but it's designed in a way that I could fit one if I really wanted, and setup I'm replacing doesn't have one either.

The e30 does have a gas strut that assists a little bit in lifting the hood, maybe you can incorporate that into your setup.

It's possible. The big aims were hinges that had a certain amount of forward loft, didn't require installing on the fender seam edge as such, would mount flat style to hood and structure with little trouble, and didn't need to extend down much. Also helpful, not interfering with the fender liner on left and right. All this, the E30 setup (at least the hinge) does pretty handily. I should be able to do something lift-wise, but exactly how and with what geometry remains to be seen.
